Paparazzi achtervolgen Kate Moss in Parijs
Topmodel Kate Moss kreeg het donderdagavond aan de stok met fotografen in Parijs. Minstens 15 paparazzi achtervolgden haar door de straten van Parijs. De fotografen waren Moss gevolgd naar het Ritz-hotel.
Daar bracht ze enkele uren door met de Franse playboy Jean-Yves Le Fur. Toen Le Fur en Moss het hotel verlieten, kropen de fotografen op motoren en gaven ze plankgas. Le Fur, een ex van prinses Stephanie van Monaco, zag zich genoodzaakt drie stoplichten te negeren om de achtervolgers af te schudden.
Moss en Le Fur zagen geen andere uitweg dan naar een politiekantoor te rijden. Ze dienden daar officiële klacht in tegen de fotografen. De agenten hielden daarna kort het verkeer tegen waardoor Le Fur en Moss ongestoord hun autorit konden voortzetten.

Fotografen evalueren Gelderlander-project
Freelance fotografen worden betrokken bij de evaluatie van het nieuwe experiment van De Gelderlander, waarbij schrijvend journalisten hun eigen digitale camera meenemen. Met het nieuwe project hoopt de regionale krant op meer foto's van nieuwswaardige gebeurtenissen. In een debat van de stichting Mediadebat in Nijmegen, woensdagavond, bleek dat fotojournalisten, vaak freelancers, bang zijn voor broodroof. Ook voelen zij zich miskend en vrezen voor de kwaliteit van de krant. Waarnemend hoofdredacteur van de Gelderlander, Louis van de Geijn, bood een handreiking door toe te zeggen dat de fotojournalisten mee mogen praten over het succes van het experiment. Op basis van die evaluatie besluit de krant door te gaan met de proef.

NVF/NVJ en HCB
Op 4 februari a.s. organiseert de NVF/NVJ exclusief voor haar leden een speciale bezichtiging van de overzichtstentoonstelling van Henri Cartier-Bresson in FOAM. Fotojournalist Daniel Koning zal een korte inleiding verzorgen.
Zet 4 februari 2006 in uw agenda. Aanvang 17.00 uur; een tijd waarop Foam zijn deuren voor het 'grote publiek' sluit. Na het bezoek aan het retrospectief van Cartier-Bresson is er gelegenheid voor een drankje in het FOAM-café. Gratis toegang voor NVF-leden op vertoon van de NVJ-perskaart. Jeugdfotoprijs voor Paul Bergen
Popfotograaf Paul Bergen, werkzaam voor het AD, heeft de Award voor de 'nieuwsfoto van het jaar' gewonnen.
De verkiezing, waarvoor 1500 kinderen van 9 tot 16 jaar hun stem uitbrachten, werd georganiseerd door jongerenkrant Kidsweek. Bergen kreeg zijn onderscheiding zondag gisteren uit handen van burgemeester Opstelten van Rotterdam.
Bergen won in de categorie Entertainment met een foto van Ali B, gemaakt tijdens de Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in Ahoy' Rotterdam op 15 oktober vorig jaar. Bergen vereeuwigde het moment dat de rapper een enorme lading groen slijm over zich heen krijgt. Slimen, heet dat in kids-termen.
"Grappig en eervol om door kinderen te worden uitgekozen", reageert Bergen op zijn winst. "Al lijkt het logisch dat zij meer hebben gekeken naar wie er op de foto staat, dan naar de techniek waarmee die is gemaakt."

Noorderlicht 2006: Fotografie uit Zuid- en Zuidoost Azië
De Noorderlicht Fotomanifestatie 2006 staat in het teken van fotografie uit Zuid- en Zuidoost Azië. Inzendingen van fotografen zijn welkom. Ook suggesties en tips van curatoren of instellingen worden op prijs gesteld.
Op de website www.noorderlicht.com zijn nadere voorwaarden en details te vinden. De deadline voor inzenden is 3 april. Omdat er ruim voor die tijd al begonnen wordt met selecteren en nadenken over de samenstelling, is het verstandig om niet tot het laatste moment te wachten.
Inzendingen kunnen rechtstreeks naar Noorderlicht curator Wim Melis worden gestuurd.
Noorderlicht zal in de manifestatie 2006 aandacht besteden aan het ándere Azië. Dat wil zeggen: de regio van Pakistan tot de Filippijnen, met als zwaartepunten India en Indonesië. Dit gebied wordt op opvallende wijze gekenmerkt door contrasten, zowel wat de landen onderling betreft als in de landen zelf. Deze tegenstellingen, die zich openbaren op economisch, religieus, politiek en cultureel vlak, zullen het uitgangspunt vormen van de manifestatie.
De manifestatie bestaat uit drie delen waarvoor kan worden ingezonden: fotografen uit het gebied zelf, westerse fotografen die er gewerkt hebben en historisch materiaal uit het gebied. In aanmerking komt fotografie uit of over de navolgende landen: India, Indonesië, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar (voorheen Birma), Thailand, Laos, Cambodja, Vietnam, Maleisië, Brunei, de Maladiven en de Filippijnen.
De regio’s die dagelijks al veel in het nieuws zijn, de economische grootmachten en de zogenaamde ‘as van het kwaad’, worden in Noorderlicht 2006 buiten beschouwing gelaten.
De 13e Noorderlicht Fotomanifestatie vindt plaats van 10 september tot en met 29 oktober 2006.

Half a dozen snappers leapt to her rescue after her silver Ferrari broke down on the Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu in California.
As a huge traffic jam built up, they jumped out of their cars to help shove the 24-year-old pop princess and her brother Bryan to safety on the side of the road. But not before they had managed to get a few close-ups of the stranded star smiling through gritted teeth.
Finally new mum Britney was whisked away by the local sheriff, who could have booked the snappers under a new Californian law that bans them following celebs. But in the circumstances he obviously decided to turn a blind eye.

Hasselblad introduceert 39 megapixel H2D-39 camera
Hasselblad's new H2D-39 D-SLR is the first true 39 megapixel digital camera in the world. It is based on Hasselblad's existing H2 digital camera and is compatible with the company's H System lenses and V camera lenses.
The camera's CCD sensor is more than twice the size of conventional 35mm camera sensors (36.7 x 49.0 mm). At maximum resolution, the images captured by the H2D-39 in RAW format are 78MB large (50MB with lossless compression).

Foto's met corrupte lobbyist brengen Bush in opspraak
Het tijdschrift TIME heeft inzage gehad in foto's die aantonen dat president George Bush jr. meerdere malen ontmoetingen heeft gehad met de omstreden lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Tot nu toe hebben zegslieden van het Witte Huis altijd ontkend dat de president Abramoff kende of zelfs maar ontmoet had. TIME kreeg van zijn bron geen toestemming om de foto's te publiceren, maar verwacht dat ze binnenkort toch in het openbaar zullen opduiken.
As details poured out about the illegal and unseemly activities of Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff, White House officials sought to portray the scandal as a Capitol Hill affair with little relevance to them. Peppered for days with questions about Abramoff's visits to the White House, press secretary Scott McClellan said the now disgraced lobbyist had attended two huge holiday receptions and a few "staff-level meetings" that were not worth describing further. "The President does not know him, nor does the President recall ever meeting him," McClellan said.
The President's memory may soon be unhappily refreshed. TIME has seen five photographs of Abramoff and the President that suggest a level of contact between them that Bush's aides have downplayed. While TIME's source refused to provide the pictures for publication, they are likely to see the light of day eventually because celebrity tabloids are on the prowl for them. And that has been a fear of the Bush team's for the past several months: that a picture of the President with the admitted felon could become the iconic image of direct presidential involvement in a burgeoning corruption scandal.

Russell Crowe waarschuwt paparazzi
Russell Crowe has warned the paparazzi to stay away from his wife, who is three-and-a-half months pregnant with their second child. He has expressed his concerns about Danielle Spencer's safety after paparazzi sprayed another Australian actor, Heath Ledger, with water on a red carpet in Sydney a fortnight ago.
Crowe revealed for the first time that the presence of paparazzi may have affected the birth of their first child:
"Danni was three weeks early last time; she gave birth just a few days after she was chased down the street by four photographers. Nobody cares, particularly the photographers; nobody cares to focus on what that is. She panicked, right, she was just walking down the street with her girlfriend, and they rushed her; four of them all surrounded her and stuff. So she panicked and slipped and all this sort of stuff. If I'd been there that would have been a really serious situation. I tell you right now, we can make a public announcement, they will be tarred and feathered if they hassle my pregnant wife again."
